Observation Narrative
A steeply sloping, riverside outcrop supporting shrub herbaceous vegetation characterized high cover of by warm-season grasses. Andropogon gerardii, Sorghastrum nutans, and Panicum virgatum are dominant, and overall species-richness is very high. The habitat is periodically scoured by floods with an average return interval of 1 to 7 years. Although a few woody plants reach diameters of 15 cm, all are strongly flood-trained and leaning, and none are > 6 m tall.
